I never cooked black rice. Though it’s nice. Tasty, yummy, healthy.
Here’s my first two variations…

Today Maxïmo Park release their 5th studio album The National Health (Warp Records) which is their first album within 3 years. I met Paul Smith and Duncan Lloyd in Berlin and in this little preview video Paul tells his essentiell thoughts about the new album. The whole conversation will be released in the autumn issue of Indie Magazine together with the amazing portraits Magnus Pettersson shot…
(after I took this photo, Paul said “Eeeek, you have to delete it, I never smile in photos” … )
a nice spice mix that includes sesame, salt, onions, almonds, rose blossoms, long pepper and saffron threads…
Roast the chopped beetroots and sweet potato cubes in a pan with hot coconut oil together with the garlic and the ginger, add the coconut milk and boil until almost al dente, then first add the cutted stalks of the chard and finally the leaves, because they only take 2 minutes to be soft. Spice up with the Reisparfum, maybe also some extra pepper, salt, nutmeg oder cinnamon, Enjoy!
Now that I am back in Berlin (and already missing Moscow and the nice friends I made there), I want to give to you a last post about my trip, which is mainly about the russian cuisine. I got the chance to get to know a lot of traditional meals and specialities and drinking habits inbetween extended walks, museums and parties…
On my last evening we had a dinner with some stinky pickles (young garlic, garlic sprouts, salted cucumbers) from the market, you have to eat them with a shot of Vodka in your hand…then drink…
with than we had a great salad with fresh estragon, tasty tomatoes, pine nuts and a lemon-honey-dressing and bulgur with peppers, eggplant and cinnamon and a spicy tomato-coriander-sauce (Ajika ) we bought at the market!
This was such a food feast! As dessert we had Churchkhela, a speciality made of walnuts and dried fruits/jam, mjam!
I also had an amazing traditional breakfast last saturday with Syrniki, little cakes made of curd cheese, eggs and flour, served with sour cream and honey from the Ural mountains:
Apart from that I tried all kinds of russian soups…Borschtsch:
Okroschka, a cold russian summer soup, made of kefir, eggs, potatoes, radish and ham:
Sorrel soup:
On sunday we had an extended walk through Gorky Park, along the Moskwa to the watchout point at Lomonossow university where you can see all over Moscow and after over 4 hours of walking, we enjoyed a dinner in a cheap-but-good russian self service restaurant at Kijewski woksal , called MuMu (bad word in german )
Borschtsch, herring salad, beetroot salad, pearl barley and salmon:
Last friday I was djing at Moscow’s Klava Bar, a packed place in the heart of the city! I had so much fun and as the people were dancing the asses off - I think they were enjoying it too …
It all started with a beautiful back…
and some nice wine&dine…
we can look like stupid 12-year-olds if we only want to…
The first night we went to this great Georgian Restaurant where they had amazing vegetarian dishes, like these eggplant rolls, filled with nuts, spinach balls with a lot of garlic and pomegranate seeds…
simple salad with tomato, coriander, cucumbers and red onions and a very delicious bean stew…
I was not sure if you can buy the golden necklace or the services of the young man here…
another famous tourist pic in front of a famous church
One of the highest statues in the world (almost 100 m) , the memorial for tsar Peter the 1st. IMPRESSING.
One of the Seven Sisters, the Stalinist style skyscrapers. It’s the Kotelnicheskaya Embankment Building where a lot of artists, musicians and famous people live(d). IMPRESSING. Yeah, Stalin was good in impressing/intimidating…
Enjoying Smooties in a nice bar with a name I couldn’t spell anyway…
This russian pastry pretends to be the No. 1 of pastries! The girl looked not totally convinced…
the original charm of russian stairways…
Welcome to Disneyland…
More monumental Stalin architecture…
…and of course - the Berlin House (is it like the SOHO house? Dunno…)
Today the long awaited album of one of the most hyped bands of 2012 is released. Manifest (Lucky Number/COOP) by Friends
The cover art is a autostereogram (remember the MAGIC EYE??) and the music is rad!!
I interviewed them guys (and girls) a few weeks ago and you will find the whole story in the upcoming Issue No.2 of Austrian Faux Fox Magazine (together with my Light Asylum Interview). Here’s a little part of our conversation, talking about their fast fame, favorite food and influences…
Starring my Tangerine Cheap Monday Sweater, a necklace from a Pop Up Store in Munich (forgot the name of the designer, shame on me) and Essence Nailpolish in Sure Azure.
Yesterday I decided to treat my nice hosts with a selfmade cake. I love Cheesecake and I wanted to check out the small russian supermarket next door, so I tried my best to find all the ingredients with only knowing 3 words of Russian (Thank You! Hello! Cheers!).
Insertion: Moscow Metro Station: Be impressed for a second, please!
I kinda worked out, even if I had to buy German Cream Cheese to make sure it is cream cheese inside
So I bought nice russian cookies, butter, cream cheese, russian sour cream, milk, sugar and cherries…
I crumbled the cookies, mixed with the melted butter and built a pastry case from that. Put it in the fridge to chill a bit.
Then I mixed the cream cheese, sour cream, a little bit of milk and some sugar (I also added a trace of orange zest)and pitted the cherries…
Then put this on top of the cold pastry case and baked it in the oven (180 ° Celsius) for around 40 Min.
Olga, my host, said it’s the best cake she’s ever eaten, well, I guess she exaggerates a bit, but - yes - it is yummy!
That was fun and I love the idea to take a very traditional American recipe and turn it into Russian, yay!
So Yesterday I met the Red Square, I would say a world-wide known somebody if it comes to historical events, celebrity posing and just-being very Disney-Landish and colourful (Sorry, Neuschwanstein!)
So I improvised a little Kate Bush Wannabe Freestyle there. I had fun. And I guess the Red Square enjoyed it, too…
I arrived in Moscow yesterday and constantly fell in love with this enourmous Megacity, even though I only saw a little bit so far. I got such a warm welcome and a delicious dinner at a Georgian Restaurant last night (photos to come…)
I got a special breakfast this morning with red caviar, baby cucumbers, delish tomatoes and a russian lemonade that tastes like a 70ies childhood…
Actually it’s icecream flavour…
The appartement where I am staying is on the 15th floor and it has a spectacular view. As I am not really able to show it on a picture, I uploaded a little video for you:
